/Few job profiles have changed as much as Compliance Officer especially in non-financial companies since the beginning of this century. If a company had a Compliance function in its organizational chart 20 years ago, which was certainly the case for only a few, then it was the Junior Legal Counsel who was tasked with writing an anti-bribery and corruption guideline. This was written in a legal language, usually not translated in other languages or do's and don'ts, and distributed within the company by memo or in paper format. With that, one had done one's duty. In 2021 the Compliance Officer is a member of the executive board in some organizations and is responsible for a compliance area that is independent of the legal department. Not only has the functional and hierarchical classification changed but also the requirements, both professionally and socially, have fundamentally changed.
